De formation classique, le jeune Ivelee Patrick Flowers s'interesse rapidement au jazz et plus précisément au jeu Stride de Fats Waller. Ne manquant pas une occasion d'aller écouter son idole, il acquiert un solide technique au piano ainsi qu'une réputation de brillant pianiste Stride. A la mort de Fats Waller, il reprend l'orchestre de ce dernier sous le nom de "Pat Flowers & His Rhythm" et perpétuant la musique et le style truculent de son aîné.
